About this tool

Percentages show up everywhere — discounts, exam marks, taxes, tips, statistics — and there are really three different questions people ask. This page answers all three, live as you type:

What is X% of Y? The classic: 20% of 150 is 30. Use it for discounts, tips and VAT. X is what percent of Y? Turn a fraction into a percentage: 30 out of 150 is 20% — perfect for marks and progress. Percentage change from X to Y: how much something grew or shrank: from 80 to 100 is a +25% increase — the one news reports and price comparisons use.

Results update instantly with up to four decimal places of precision, and each calculator remembers its own inputs so you can compare scenarios side by side.

How to use

  1. Pick the question that matches your problem (of / what percent / change).
  2. Enter the two numbers you know.
  3. The answer appears instantly — no button needed.

Frequently asked questions

Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply: 20% of 150 = (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30. The first calculator does this for you.

Percentage change = (new − old) ÷ |old| × 100. Going from 80 to 100: (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = +25%.

Use the second calculator: your marks "is what percent of" the total. 432 out of 500 = 86.4%.

Going from 10% to 15% is a rise of 5 percentage points, but a 50% relative increase. This calculator computes the relative change.
